A shipment's physical mass and its commercial measurement basis may not be the same. Mineral-product records need to preserve the relevant moisture information so dispatch, receipt and settlement can be reconciled under the terms the parties have actually agreed.
A defined basis
The contract and technical procedures should establish how quantity and moisture are determined and used. Appropriate specialists should review the arrangement. The operating team then needs clear records that preserve that basis, rather than carrying one undifferentiated tonnage figure through every stage and leaving finance to discover later that counterparties were referring to different measures.
Changes along the route
Storage and transport conditions may influence the material received. The relevance depends on the product and agreement, but the parties need an appropriate way to investigate differences. A clear record of sampling, measurement and custody supports that discussion. Without it, an ordinary reconciliation can become a dispute over whose number should be accepted simply because each appears precise on its own document.
Inventory and sale together
The production account, stock record and commercial invoice should connect without being forced into identical formats where their purposes differ. A useful reconciliation explains the transformations. This helps management distinguish genuine material differences from changes in reporting basis and prevents a seemingly straightforward volume comparison from producing an incorrect conclusion about operating performance or commercial loss.
Clarity at the handoff
For producers and buyers, agreeing the measurement account early reduces avoidable friction. Investors can use that account to understand how reported output becomes saleable quantity and final receipts. The issue is less about adding technical complexity to a presentation than about retaining the essential information that allows several legitimate records to describe the same shipment consistently from production through completed settlement.
